Today, Elmbrook Church had a 5k run in Waukesha, WI. The 5K Run/Walk was another way of helping raise money for the safe house Exploit No More is trying to build. My mom and I and a group of our friends went out and participated in it today! Check out some of the pictures below!
I started off my run on a mission. I had places to be and I knew it would probably take me about 2 hours to run 12 miles! Of course it was sunny outside and a little bit windy. It felt like the perfect day to run! I was glad that I had drank a lot of water during work. After about mile 3 I had just finished going up some hills and I was wondering to myself.."what did I get myself into?" I got to mile 6 and I was feeling good. I drank some water, checked in with my dad, and then kept on going. The last 6 miles weren't too bad with hills. I was starting to get a little worn out at mile 9. I pulled out a Gatorade energy chew and felt like I could finish. My feet started feeling heavier and heavier with each step. Then at about mile 11 "You Can't Stop Me" by: Andy Mineo came on and I knew I could finish this. I've learned that running is mainly a mental sport. I had to remind myself that I was almost done and to keep the pace. I had one big hill left in my run and I was close to home. I picked up my speed a little (at least I felt like I did) and I knew that when I got home I'd be done and I could eat dinner and stretch. I got home and my watch said 1 hour 57 minutes and 23 seconds. I had even beaten the time I thought it would take me. My dad went and got me Oven Roasted Chicken Breast from Subway. Yumm, my favorite! :) I stretched and showered and felt great!
12 miles is the longest distance I have ran for training for this run! I have a 14 miler next week and it will keep increasing as the weeks go by! I'm feeling good and stronger and I'm going to continue to work at getting stronger and stronger so my body is ready for what It's going to be put through! Thanks for all the support from everyone so far! -Hannah |
